We are a family business – especially in the summer!

Apart from my father and managing director Rüdiger Hellstern, my mother Simone Hellstern is also actively involved in the marketing department at HYDROPNEU. During the semester breaks my sister Sarah (23) and I, Julia (21), also regularly work in different areas. My uncle Volker Hellstern is financially involved in the company. (A report by Julia Hellstern, who studies Communications in Edinboro, USA)

My sister Sarah is studying Business Finance in Portland, Oregon, and with her good language skills has been able to help with the development and expansion of Hydropneu's English website. She also translated many product information sheets and contacted English magazines for the publication of articles.

What she appreciates most about working with the family is the relaxed climate in which one can openly express his or her opinion. My mother is excited about the common work place, as she only sees us during the semester breaks. Since she knows our strengths well, she always has the right task for us. The way she described it in our interview was: "Many marketing campaigns were much easier and faster to implement this summer with your help. In addition, each one of you has their strengths: You Julia, you are the sociable type, so it is easy for you to approach people and to talk to them. You also gained experience in this area at the Euroguss trade fair.

One of Sarah’s strengths is analytical thinking. She puts great emphasis on the fact that the translated product information sheets are error-free, flawless, and uniformly designed in text and optics and adopted a very strategic approach. Thus, both had their area of responsibility and were able to contribute their strengths."

Rüdiger: "It is important for students to gain practical experience." Like my mother, my father is also happy about the fact that we support the company: "I think it's good that my daughters earn some money themselves." In addition, he views it very positively that we also get to know the practice alongside our studies; In his opinion, this enhances our understanding of the business operations and how they are interconnected on a very broad basis.

My sister and I agree with him. Sarah reports: "We are experiencing the day-to-day business operations at first hand. It is very interesting what you have to do in the field of marketing and sales in order to be successful. I really enjoy working at HYDROPNEU. I am glad to be able to sensibly use the knowledge I have acquired at the university and my English skills, which are constantly being improved through my studies in the USA, and I have gained a lot of valuable, new experiences. The good collaboration with my family naturally contributes to the fact that the work at Hydropneu is fun and very productive at the same time." Of course, business issues are regularly discussed even after work because from a “family-business” you always take a part home with you!
